Introduction to the ‘3+1/3+2 Direct Train to Master's Program’ for Undergraduate Students in Law between Jiangnan University and the University of Technology Sydney

I. Introduction to theDirect TrainCooperation Program

(1) 3+1 Model: For third-year students majoring in law

Third-year undergraduate studentsmajoring in law at Jiangnan University who have completed the required course credits for graduation and achieved an IELTS score of 6.5 or above can apply for the‘3+1 directtrainmaster's program’.After passing the selection and review, they will study at the University of Technology Sydney for one year. Upon completing the corresponding course credits as required, they will obtain a Master of Law (C04143) or Master of International Commercial and Business Law (C04432) degree (depending on the student's choice).

Students must still complete their graduation thesis writing and defense. After passing the review and meeting the graduation and degree awarding requirements, they will be awarded a bachelor's degree in law from Jiangnan University, too.

(2) 3+2 Model: For third-year students majoring in law

Third-year undergraduate students majoring in law at Jiangnan University who have completed the required course credits for graduation and achieved an IELTS score of 6.5 or above can apply for the‘3+2directtrainmaster's program’. After passing the selection and review, they will study at the University of Technology Sydney for two years. Upon completing the corresponding course credits as required, they will obtain a Juris Doctor Graduate Certificate in Professional Legal Practice (C04320) or Master of Legal Studies (C04264) degree (depending on the student's choice).

Students must still complete their graduation thesis writing and defense. After passing the review and meeting the graduation and degree awarding requirements, they will be awarded a bachelor's degree in law from Jiangnan University, too.

II. Selection Mechanism

Students participating in the project must meet the following requirements:

1. Love the motherland, be passionate about the study of law, be committed to engaging in foreign-related legal services, have good moral character and a firm political stance;

2. Academic requirements: Complete all the required undergraduate courses for graduation and obtain the corresponding credits before applying, with no outstanding credits;

3. English proficiency: Reach an IELTS score of 6.5 or above;

4. Targetstudents: Third-year studentsmajor in law;

5. Submit a qualified application, supporting documents, and recommendation letters, and pass the interviews of both universities;

6.Time:The college organizes relevant major students to register in March each year, and completes the qualification review, interviews, and selection recommendations.

III. Fee Information

Students participating in the program are required to pay the tuition fees to both Jiangnan University and the University of Technology Sydney as stipulated.

IV. Main Advantages of the Project

1. High Ranking of UTS

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is ranked 88th globally in the 2023 QS World University Rankings, and its lawmajoris ranked 68th. This meets the requirements of most international law firms and enterprises for QS top 100 universities. Students who complete the‘3+2’program and obtain a JD degree can directly apply for the Australian legal practice certificate, saving a significant amount of time and economic costs.

2. Diverse Options

Students can apply for various master's and doctoral programs such as LLM, MICBL, JDGCPLP, and MLS. During their study at UTS, they can also choose to apply to other universities with higher QS rankings, such as the University of Sydney (ranked 18th), and there are also cooperative programs for obtaining a US law doctorate and legal practice.

3. Low Language Barrier

UTS has set up a dedicated academic English course at the Continuing Education College of Jiangnan University. After a short-term study and passing the examination, it can replace the IELTS score.

4. High Cost-effectiveness

The last year of the program overlaps with the fourth year of undergraduate study, saving time, tuition fees, travel expenses, accommodation costs, etc.

5. Reliability

UTS and Jiangnan University have signed an inter-university cooperation agreement. The cooperative education program is legally guaranteed, and the degrees obtained are recognized by theChinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange.

6. Convenient Communication

UTS offers various short-term exchange programs such as summer camps. Students can visit the campusin advanceor communicate with UTS at any time through the college to get their questions answered.
