Social work major is an emerging discipline geared to international standards, with strong applicability, and boasting a bright future. It is a sociological science studying the restoration and development of social relations, the prevention and intervention of social problems, the assistance and empowerment of vulnerable groups, and the implementation and evaluation of social policies, etc. In Europe and America, it has become a familiar profession, ranking along lawyers and doctors while in China, it has just began in the 1990s and developed rapidly in the last decade.

Our social work major has been founded in 2001, making us an early bird offering social work major in China. Currently, we have 16 full-time teachers, including 13 professors and associate professors, 11 doctoral degree holders, and six with overseas degree or overseas training experience. In the past three years, we have undertaken three national social science fund projects, eight provincial and ministerial humanities and social science fund projects, and published more than 50 papers in CSSCI journals. The scientific research achievements of many teachers have won provincial and municipal scientific research achievements awards, and many consulting reports have been approved and adopted by provincial and municipal governments or functional departments.

We have aimed at cultivating practical social workers who have the basic concepts of social work and professional services, and are competent for social problem intervention and prevention, social policy assessment and research, grassroots political power construction and community development, and public service project planning and evaluation. Students of social work major are required to understand basic knowledge of social work, psychology and sociology in an all-around and profound way, and be equipped with solid and comprehensive professional theories; master social work practices and specialized skills and have strong analytical and problem-solving skills; closely contact the actual social work and adapt to the needs of society at various levels of social work professionals. We boast professional practice teaching by relying on professional laboratories, off-campus practice bases and holiday social practice activities. In addition to having a first-class social work laboratory, we also cooperate with local governments to establish a stable and standardized practice base or social work cooperation base. We have also achieved outstanding achievement in our holiday practice activities.

Over 90% students of social work major have obtained job offers upon graduation. Most of them are well adapted to the requirements of the job, reflecting their solid foundation, comprehensive quality, and pioneering nature in the professional field. Many of them have become the pioneers of social work-related practical fields and the backbone in the education of social work major. The majority of them have been well received by employers. Nearly 30% students pursue further study in famous foreign universities of the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and the first-class universities in China every year.
